Reasons Your AC Is Leaking Water & Might Need Repair
Both window and wall air conditioner units can experience leaking issues, often due to similar causes. One common reason is improper mounting during installation. For both types, it's crucial that the unit is installed with a slight downward slant toward the outside. This slant ensures that water from condensation drains outside rather than pooling inside the unit and leaking into the room.
A clogged condensate drain is another frequent cause. When the drain becomes blocked by dirt or debris, the collected water has no outlet, leading to leaks. Dirty air filters can cause the evaporator coils to freeze, and when they thaw, the excess water might leak. Low refrigerant levels can also contribute to freezing and subsequent leaks. In high humidity or when the unit is overworked, excessive condensation can overwhelm the drainage system. Regular maintenance, including cleaning filters and ensuring proper installation, is key to preventing these issues.
